Asking questions over email

I'm generally happy to answer questions over email.  If you are going to email me, you should include, at least, the answers to these questions:

  • What goal are you trying to accomplish?
  • What did you do?  If you have a Subversion question, send the command.  If you have a Java question, send the source or a location in Subversion.
  • What happened?  What output or errors did you see?
  • What relevant documentation have you read?
  • Are you using a Mac or Windows?  What editor, if it's relevant?
If you answer these questions, I'm much more likely to be able to help you.

(By the way, if you're having trouble copying and pasting in PowerShell, check out the menu in the top left corner of its window.)
